Welcome to the Pennhurst Memorial & Preservation Alliance

The Mission of the Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance

is to promote an understanding of the struggle for dignity and full civil rights for persons with disabilities, using the little-known history at Pennhurst. By sharing this tragic story as well as its landmark victories, we seek to educate citizens in local, national and international communities, to assure that we never go back.

The Vision of the Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance

is to be part of an effort to create a world-class museum to honor and memorialize the ongoing civil and human rights struggle of Americans with disabilities at a location of national significance, to assure that we never go back.

Join Us In A Dream!

The PMPA has been working on a two-part vision of the future:

  1. A Pennhurst Museum on Pennhurst's historic lower campus
We're building a museum on the Pennhurst campus that houses the most substantial collection of Pennhurst artifacts.
  2. A National Disabilities Museum in Washington, D.C.
We have drafted legislation for the U.S. Congress to create a two year Commission to study the concept and recommend concrete steps. Now is the time to unite with all disability groups and organizations to generate support!
